Lesson 6 The Star

"Every man and woman is a star" Alistair Crowley.

The Star has a close relationship to the science of astrology. I want to explore this idea, by considering what an astrological birthchart ought to be able to tell us.

Consider the idea that before birth we might be able to exercise a certain amount of control over the type of experiences we shall have in the life that follows our incarnation. Maybe we eventually develop the skill of isolating those weaknesses and inadequacies in our fundamental character structure which require strengthening and moulding. So we might select specific types of situation, with particular sorts of people, which allow us to work on the features we have chosen to improve.

It could therefore be said that the birthchart reveals our intent before incarnation - for if we are able to choose certain experiences, then we might regard our time and place of birth as part of the blueprint for this life. Of course, these are the fundamental facts upon which a chart is drawn up to reveal the planetary influences which hold greatest sway over our lives. So, by studying the birth data, we might be able to glean a great deal of information that reveals our original intent.

One of the most oft-voiced complaints about the theory of reincarnation is that prior knowledge and evolution is little use to the individual if they cannot remember a single feature of the earlier experience. I am not sure that this is not a rationalist's point of view. It strikes me that, on a subliminal level, we effectively recover many of the things we have learned before. It is possible that, when we find ourselves drawn to a subject for which we have a particular aptitude, we are simply recalling (subconsciously at least) earlier training. Might our talents and skills in this life not be recognitions of pre-incarnationary experiences? Perhaps the things we find ourselves having most trouble with this time around are the very lessons that we chose to learn.

A chart allows you to determine your place in the scheme of things, I think. It reveals the things that you have chosen to work with. Your own natural reactions to things in your life may be a clear indicator of what you have already learned, and what there is still to be examined. This would not only apply to the more mundane aspects of material life, but would also indicate emotional and spiritual lessons you had intended to come to terms with.

We have talked a great deal about the importance of, firstly, recognising that a change is taking place in the world around us, and secondly, of attempting to recognise our place in that change. Hopefully, by now, you feel certain that there is some meaning and purpose to your existence, that you are beginning (however distantly) to accept that you have an important contribution to make.................
